In my experience, March 17th can be cold and rainy or sunny and beautiful. So here are cold and hot options for an Irish coffee. And also a bit of a twist — make it a Chai version with a homemade simple syrup.

Ingredients:

Cold

  • 1.5 oz. Irish whiskey

  • 3 oz. cold brew coffee (can buy small cans of it at the grocery store)

  • .5 oz. Bailey’s Irish cream (can find mini bottles)

  • .5 oz. Chai simple syrup (see note below). Can just use regular simple syrup if you want.

  • Nutmeg (optional)

  • Chick-Fil-A ice (optional)

Hot

  • 1.5 oz. Irish whiskey

  • 4 oz. freshly brewed hot coffee

  • .5 oz. Bailey’s Irish cream (can find mini bottles)

  • .5 oz. milk (any kind)

  • .5 oz. Chai simple syrup (see note below). Can just use regular simple syrup if you want.

  • Whipped cream — from a can or homemade (optional)

  • Cardamom (optional)

Instructions:

Cold

  1. Add all ingredients (minus the nutmeg) into a shaker and shake.

  2. Pour into glass with ice.

  3. Using a microplane, shave some fresh nutmeg onto the top of the ice.

Hot

  1. Put whiskey, Bailey’s, milk and simple syrup into coffee glass.

  2. Top with hot coffee (no stirring!).

  3. Top with whipped cream and sprinkle cardamom.

Chai simple syrup note: Bring an 8 oz. and 1 cup of sugar to a boil. Boil for 3 minutes. Remove from heat and put in 2 Chai tea bags and allow to steep for 10 minutes. Remove tea bags and let fully cool.
