Building a Playlist

Maybe it’s just me, but I always seem to have a hard time finding the right playlist for a get-together. Something that enhances the mood but isn’t annoying and leaves you reaching for the “next song” button more times than not.

And while you should set the mood with a playlist that feels like you, try not to have your go-to ONLY be made up of your favorite bands/music that you listen to in your car, at home, etc. No one wants to sit at my house listening to Coldplay’s “Fix You” on repeat all night. This is not your personal playlist, but music to create whatever vibe you are trying to create for ALL your guests. Think of the fun hotel you stayed where they had cool music in the lobby or the cocktail bar you go to that seems to have music that is a great addition to the night. And look, it’s your party. Blast Beyonce or Luke Bryan if you want.

I like songs that have enough energy to keep a good flow going, but also won’t interrupt and break through conversation. Sometimes I will tend to go towards music that people may not recognize much. And sometimes I will throw in some favorites that will provide the occasional “I love this song” from someone.

I have put a few of my Spotify playlists on this site and will continue to add more as time goes on. Some will be ones I put together myself, some will be from other people and some will be official Spotify lists. Granted, these are some of my personal favorites. I tend to like a more chill music vibe. These may not be your style. But I hope you enjoy them or at least inspires you to put some more thought into the music component of you party.
